Design the right technology foundation.

I design complete technology platforms for web hosting, specialized applications, private video, media, and development environments. The work can include server specifications, operating systems, hypervisors, containers, deployment architecture, and a clear plan for who will operate the system.

Common starting points

  • An application has outgrown commodity or shared hosting.
  • The organization needs to choose between its own infrastructure, a cloud platform, and a managed provider.
  • Docker, LXC/LXD, or a traditional virtual machine could all work, but the operational tradeoffs are unclear.
  • The team needs to choose an operating-system family such as Ubuntu or Red Hat.

What the work can cover

Requirements and workload

Define what the platform must run, who depends on it, how demand changes, and which constraints matter before selecting products.

Server and environment specifications

Translate the workload into practical compute, memory, storage, operating-system, access, and deployment requirements.

Virtualization and containers

Compare hypervisors, virtual machines, Docker, LXC/LXD, and other deployment patterns based on isolation, maintainability, staffing, and the applications involved.

Application and hosting architecture

Design the relationship among the operating system, runtime, databases, storage, application services, private collaboration tools, media services, and administrative access.

Deployment and operating model

State who owns the accounts, who maintains each layer, how changes are deployed, and where ongoing management begins and ends.

How the work proceeds

  1. Define the workload

    Document the application, users, data, dependencies, constraints, and operating expectations.

  2. Compare architectures

    Evaluate realistic options using the same decision criteria, so the comparison is honest rather than a preference dressed up as analysis.

  3. Specify the platform

    Produce an architecture, server and environment specifications, ownership boundaries, and a deployment plan.

  4. Deploy or hand off

    Implement through the agreed delivery model, or provide the specifications to your chosen team.
