The work may involve Canvas, Moodle, LearnDash, Articulate, Camtasia, or another platform, but the technology follows the audience, objectives, instructional approach, administration, and assessment strategy.

Common starting points

A platform was selected before the learning objectives were defined.
The team is unsure whether the experience should be interactive courseware, video, facilitated learning, reference material, or a combination.
Articulate, Camtasia, and other development tools appear to overlap, but the production requirements are different.
An LMS is already in place, but participation, completion, administration, or reporting is weak.

Platform and LMS strategy

Evaluate and configure systems such as Canvas, Moodle, and LearnDash around enrollment, roles, permissions, administration, integrations, reporting, and long-term ownership.

Integration and administration

Connect the learning environment with identity, student, HR, membership, credentialing, or reporting systems and define who will operate it.

Measurement and evaluation

Determine how learning, application, participation, and program effectiveness will be measured and reported.

Product-training platforms

Situation.: Two equipment vendors needed to train both their customers and their own staff on how their products are specified, fitted, and supported.
